101 — The History of Covenant Law, Part Six
The Second Set Of Tablets
If it was a great surprise to you that the first entry into The Book of the Covenant, the words of Exodus 20 through 23, all four chapters, were the words written on the first set of stone tablets Moses brought down from the mountain the first time… I’m pretty sure this teaching concerning the second set of tablets will most certainly fall strangely upon your ears and eyes.
The vast Judeo-Christian world mistakenly believes that the Ten Commandments were written on both sets of tablets. These Believers in the Mighty One of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob are completely beguiled in their understanding of this matter… And willingly at that. Let us re-examine a couple of texts that make this point clear.
“Then Moses turned and went down from the mountain with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand, tablets that were written on both sides; on the front and on the back they were written. The tablets were the work of The Almighty, and the writing was the writing of The Almighty, engraved on the tablets.” Exodus 32:15–16
And
“Remember and do not forget how you provoked YoHeWaH your Mighty One to wrath in the wilderness. From the day you came out of the land of Egypt until you came to this place, you have been rebellious against YoHeWaH. Even at Horeb you provoked YoHeWaH to wrath, and YoHeWaH was so angry with you that he was ready to destroy you. When I went up the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that YoHeWaH made with you, I remained on the mountain forty days and forty nights. I neither ate bread nor drank water. And YoHeWaH gave me the two tablets of stone written with the finger of The Almighty, and on them were all the words that YoHeWaH had spoken with you on the mountain out of the midst of the fire on the day of the assembly. And at the end of forty days and forty nights, YoHeWaH gave me the two tablets of stone, THE TABLETS OF THE COVENANT. Then YoHeWaH said to me, ‘Arise, go down quickly from here, for your people whom you have brought from Egypt have acted corruptly. They have turned aside quickly out of the way that I commanded them; they have made themselves a metal image.’” Deuteronomy 9:7–12
How Christendom misses this fact is beyond me. I fully understand why Judaism disregards this information. The teachers of the most Satanic Religion of deception known to man deliberately twist the truth on this matter because they know, once you see concerning what was dictated upon the two tablets of stone, the next step of a correct understanding on the matter is to address how the rest of Torah Law does not gee — & — haw with Covenant Law. Masters of deception, they are!
In our story of the history of Covenant Law, we have come to Exodus 34.
“YoHeWaH said to Moses, “Cut for yourself two tablets of stone like the first, and I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets, which you broke. Be ready by the morning, and come up in the morning to Mount Sinai, and present yourself there to me on the top of the mountain. No one shall come up with you, and let no one be seen throughout all the mountain. Let no flocks or herds graze opposite that mountain.” So Moses cut two tablets of stone like the first. And he rose early in the morning and went up on Mount Sinai, as YoHeWaH had commanded him, and took in his hand two tablets of stone. YoHeWaH descended in the cloud and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of YoHeWaH. YoHeWaH passed before him and proclaimed, “YoHeWaH, YoHeWaH, a Mighty One merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” And Moses quickly bowed his head toward the earth and worshiped. And he said, “If now I have found favor in your sight, O Sovereign YoHeWaH, please let YoHeWaH go in the midst of us, for it is a stiff-necked people, and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for your inheritance.” Exodus 34:1–9
Now, it must be noted that this is the third time Moses would ascend for 40 days and nights in fasting before YoHeWaH. Just consider that for a moment. If he ate between the three times, it's not recorded. Being the glory of The Almighty’s presence supercedes the physical necessities of life itself. This is a direct scriptural reference to this fact, for sure. Here is a quick breakdown of the evidence concerning this incredible trifecta of human fasting:
First Ascent — Moses receives both the written Laws of Covenant and the outline of Plan B, the added Levitical Priesthood Law, if needed.
Purpose: Moses receives the initial tablets of the covenant, written by the finger of the Almighty.
Reference: Exodus 24:18, Jasher 82
Event: While Moses is away, the Israelites create the religion of idolatry with the Golden Calf. Moses is fasting for 40 days and nights.
Outcome: Moses descends, sees the idolatry, and breaks the tablets of the Covenant in anger (Exodus 32:19).
Second Ascent — Intercession for Israel. Moses asks for an opportunity to atone for Israel’s sin of idolatry and the preservation of YoHeWaH’s mighty name.
Purpose: Moses pleads for mercy on behalf of Israel after their sin, as the true mediator that he is.
Reference: Exodus 32:30–35, Jasher 83
Event: Moses prays and fasts for another 40 days and nights.
Outcome: YoHeWaH relents from destroying the people, but there are consequences—the stipulations of the added, temporary, Plan B, Levitical Priesthood.
Third Ascent — Receiving New Tablets, the second set of tablets, which have a partial speaking of the first set.
Purpose: YoHeWaH commands Moses to hew two new stone tablets and once again inscribes the commandments.
Reference: Exodus 34:28, Deuteronomy 10:10, Jasher 84
Event: YoHeWaH renews the covenant, showing an everlasting amount of mercy for His people Israel, remembering His promised Covenant with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob/Israel. Again, Moses eats no food nor drinks any water for this third 40-day and night period. (Exodus 34:28)
Outcome: Moses returns with renewed tablets of the partial covenant, and his face shines with glory (Exodus 34:29-35).
The contents of the words transcribed on the second set of tablets are about as straightforward as one can imagine. The text is clear. After dictating the words of the second Covenant, YoHeWaH says this to Moses…
“…Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” Exodus 34:27
So, in other words, the Almighty gives Moses the words of the lesser covenant and tells Moses to write those words on the two stone tablets. How could anyone misunderstand this statement?
Wait, yes, I can see how… But I am getting ahead of myself. Allow me to step back and recite the words of the lesser covenant, written on the two tablets — 17 verses from Exodus 34.
“And YoHeWaH said, “Behold, I am making a covenant. Before all your people I will do marvels, such as have not been created in all the earth or in any nation. And all the people among whom you are shall see the work of YoHeWaH, for it is an awesome thing that I will do with you.
“Observe what I command you this day. Behold, I will drive out before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. Take care, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you go, lest it become a snare in your midst. You shall tear down their altars and break their pillars and cut down their Asherim (for you shall worship no other god, for YoHeWaH, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous Mighty One), lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and when they whore after their gods and sacrifice to their gods and you are invited, you eat of his sacrifice, and you take of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters whore after their gods and make your sons whore after their gods.
“You shall not make for yourself any gods of cast metal.
“You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib, for in the month Abib you came out from Egypt. All that open the womb are mine, all your male livestock, the firstborn of cow and sheep. The firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem. And none shall appear before me empty-handed.
“Six days you shall work, but on the seventh day you shall rest. In plowing time and in harvest, you shall rest. You shall observe the Feast of Weeks, the firstfruits of the wheat harvest, and the Feast of Ingathering at the year’s end. Three times in the year shall all your males appear before the Sovereign YoHeWaH, the Mighty One of Israel. Or I will cast out nations before you and enlarge your borders; no one shall covet your land, when you go up to appear before YoHeWaH, your Mighty One, three times in the year.
“You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with anything leavened, or let the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover remain until the morning. The best of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring to the house of YoHeWaH, your Mighty One. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.” Exodus 34:10–27
The scripture alludes to the fact that the Ark of the Covenant will be rediscovered one day. When and if YoHeWaH allows that box to be opened, revealing what is inside, I genuinely believe the world will be shocked to find the above words occupy the surface of the two tablets of stone within the ark. I think this much is clear… But why would the world be amazed?
The answer to that question lies in the words we are about to read in the story; most of Christendom, and indeed, Judaism as well, believe exactly what the text says, despite its mistranslation. Here is how the Masoretic text conveys this information:
“And YoHeWaH said to Moses, 'Write these words, for in accordance with these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” So he was there with YoHeWaH forty days and forty nights. He neither ate bread nor drank water. AND HE WROTE ON THE TABLETS THE WORDS OF THE COVENANT, the Ten Commandments.” Exodus 34:27–28
So, there it is, the contents of the second set of tablets are the Ten Commandments, right?
Well, no. Not exactly.
There is an interesting footnote attached to verse 28 of Exodus 34 that warrants attention. That footnote says:
c 28 Hebrew The TEN WORDS
The words translated as “the Ten Commandments” should be understood as “The TEN WORDS”.
The keyword in the text would be the word “WORDS”.
dabar: Word, matter, thing, speech, command, promise
Original Word: דָבָר (H1697)
Part of Speech: Noun Masculine
Transliteration: dabar
Pronunciation: dah-VAHR
Phonetic Spelling: (daw-baw’)act, advice, affair, answer, any such thing, because of, book, business,
From dabar; a word; by implication, the answer to a matter (as spoken of) or thing; adverbially, a cause —
The best understanding we can glean from the above definition is that there are ten answers to the matter of the covenant being broken at the Golden Calf Event… Not that the exact words were written on the second set of tablets as they were on the first. It certainly was not just the Ten Commandments, as Judeo-Christians believe. These are ten points. Ten answers or argumentative facts showing all the areas of the Covenant that Israel broke, just over 80 days prior.
So, what are these ten points?
Well, let’s break them down…
1 — Be obedient to Me
Observe what I command you this day.
2 — Make no covenant, of any kind, with the peoples of the foreign nations.
Behold, I will drive out before you the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites. Take care, lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land to which you go, lest it become a snare in your midst.
lest you make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land, and when they whore after their gods and sacrifice to their gods and you are invited, you eat of his sacrifice, and you take of their daughters for your sons, and their daughters whore after their gods and make your sons whore after their gods.
3 — Destroy all false religions.
You shall tear down their altars and break their pillars and cut down their Asherim
4 — You shall have no other Mighty Ones before you — the first commandment.
(for you shall worship no other god,…
5 — You shall only call upon the name and/or reputation of YoHeWaH — the third commandment.
for YoHeWaH, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous Mighty One)
6 — You shall not make any graven images — the second commandment.
“You shall not make for yourself any gods of cast metal.
7 — Remember and observe the Sabbaths of YoHeWaH — the fourth commandment.
“You shall keep the Feast of Unleavened Bread. Seven days you shall eat unleavened bread, as I commanded you, at the time appointed in the month Abib, for in the month Abib you came out from Egypt.
8 — Observe the statutes of proper offerings
And none shall appear before me empty-handed. You shall not offer the blood of my sacrifice with anything leavened, or let the sacrifice of the Feast of the Passover remain until the morning.
9 — Observe the law of the firstborn.
All that open the womb are mine, all your male livestock, the firstborn of cow and sheep. The firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. All the firstborn of your sons you shall redeem.
10 — Observe the laws of Firstfruits.
The best of the firstfruits of your ground you shall bring to the house of YoHeWaH, your Mighty One. You shall not boil a young goat in its mother’s milk.”
Just in case you’re really not paying attention to what’s being laid down in this text, allow me to spell it out for you.
Because Israel could not fully observe the terms and conditions of the original Covenant, which consisted of 20 points — the Ten Commandments and Ten Judgments — YoHeWaH decided to lessen those original terms for ancient Israel, who were void of the indwelling of His Spirit. Thus, the shortened, lesser terms and conditions of this new covenant essentially addressed all the shortcomings committed by Israel at the incident of the Golden Calf… However, with the added effect of the burden and punishment of the Levitical Priesthood. So, while YoHeWaH lessened the Covenant side of the equation, He added the weight of the Levitical Priesthood in His effort to bring Israel to Christ just over 1.5 Millennial years down the road.
Now, before we move on with the story in Exodus 34, I must lend a second witness to the fact that the words written on the second tablets were simply a partial recitation of the original covenant. Let’s again read the text:
“And YoHeWaH said to Moses, “Write these words, for IN ACCORDANCE WITH these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” Exodus 34:27 ESV
The King James says it like this:
“Then YoHeWaH said to Moses, “Write these words, for according TO THE TENOR OF these words I have made a covenant with you and with Israel.” Exodus 34:27 NKJV
The words “IN ACCORDANCE WITH” and “TO THE TENOR OF” are the Hebrew word:
peh: Mouth
Original Word: פֶה (H6310)
Part of Speech: Noun Masculine
Transliteration: peh
Pronunciation: peh
Phonetic Spelling: (peh)To speak with the breath of the mouth, to blow away or to cleave into pieces, to divide via a sentence, a partial speaking.
So, I hope you can see what we are laying down here in this teaching is truly important. Take a look around you today. How does the end time, regathered House of Israel, stack up against just this lesser Covenant that YoHeWaH has mercifully given to us?
Not very well, I’m afraid.
Exodus 34 continues:
“When Moses came down from Mount Sinai, with the two tablets of the testimony in his hand as he came down from the mountain, Moses did not know that the skin of his face shone because he had been talking with the Almighty. Aaron and all the people of Israel saw Moses, and behold, the skin of his face shone, and they were afraid to come near him. But Moses called to them, and Aaron and all the leaders of the congregation returned to him, and Moses talked with them. Afterward all the people of Israel came near, and he commanded them all that YoHeWaH had spoken with him in Mount Sinai. And when Moses had finished speaking with them, he put a veil over his face.
Whenever Moses went in before YoHeWaH to speak with him, he would remove the veil, until he came out. And when he came out and told the people of Israel what he was commanded, the people of Israel would see the face of Moses, that the skin of Moses’ face was shining. And Moses would put the veil over his face again, until he went in to speak with him.” Exodus 34:28–35
The case has already been made, Moses is the typology of The Woman of Revelation 12:1. The above passage is a classic example of end-time prophecy found in books other than Revelation and Daniel. In places that most Believers would never think to look.
The mediation of Moses between YoHeWaH and the people of Israel is clear enough. However, the Spirit Being status of this mediator is never expressed as a proper interpretation of this event. Consider these end-time thoughts delivered to us by the above-mentioned end-time Prophet of scripture.
“At that time shall arise Michael, the great prince who has charge of your people. And there shall be a time of trouble, such as never has been since there was a nation till that time. But at that time your people shall be delivered, everyone whose name shall be found written in the book. And many of those who sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake, some to everlasting life, and some to shame and everlasting contempt. And those who are wise SHALL SHINE LIKE THE BRIGHTNESS OF HEAVEN ABOVE; and those who turn many to righteousness, LIKE THE STARS FOR EVER AND EVER. But you, Daniel, shut up the words and seal the book, until the time of the end. Many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.” Daniel 12:1–4
The deliverance of the people as Daniel describes in the above text, combined with the time setting lent to us by Daniel’s words, makes clear the typology given to us by Moses’s shining face coming out from the presence of the Almighty YoHeWaH. There was a definite change in Moses’s character and physical appearance after spending 120 days with Yahweh face-to-face.
120 days… Uhm… Where have I heard this before? Ah, yes. Let’s consider another seemingly lost insight delivered to us concerning the end time in another esoteric location of scripture.
“When man began to multiply on the face of the land and daughters were born to them, the sons of The Almighty saw that the daughters of man were attractive. And they took as their wives any they chose. Then YoHeWaH said, “My Spirit shall not abide in man forever, for he is flesh: his days shall be 120 years.” Genesis 6:1–3
As in the days of Noah, so too shall be the coming of the sign of the Son of Man. The 120 days of Moses’s face-to-face relationship with YoHeWaH are a biblical type of the 120 periods of time during which YoHeWaH is working with the people of Adam, toward this last generation. The Almighty has spent the past 120 Jubilee periods, or 6,000 years, culling out and working with what amounts to 144,000 souls who are ready to govern righteously in His coming government. A small number of these 144,000 make up the highest offices within His government, and are the Woman of Revelation 12:1 and will, as Daniel puts it, “SHINE LIKE THE BRIGHTNESS OF HEAVEN ABOVE”. So be it.
This concludes the sixth part of “The History of Covenant Law”. Up next… Part 7, “All Things Levitical Priesthood”.
