How Many Counts Are In Deuteronomy 16:9 Concerning Pentecost

Another Example of Masoretic / Judaism Incompetence

4 min readJun 3, 2025

With a correct understanding of Leviticus 23:15-16 concerning the proper way to count Pentecost… Seven Sabbaths complete, a single day, then after the single day, the following day begins the 50-day count toward the 50th day being Pentecost, the question is begged: What about this same command given in Deuteronomy 16:9? The two texts seem to contradict the understanding of Leviticus 23, right?

Well, yes, it does, if you take the Jewish slant lent to us from the Massoretic text, from which most of our Bibles are translated. Once again, Judaism, the true WHORE of Babylon spoken of in Revelation 17 has created the trap of deception that we were all born into:

Teachable Moment:

“And on her forehead was written a name of mystery: “BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH” And I saw the woman, drunk with the blood of the saints, the blood of the martyrs of Yeshua.” Revelation 17:5–6

Many Believers don't know that it was Roman-aligned Judaism that brainstormed and actually trained the original footing of the Roman Catholic Church. The RCC is not the Mother Whore of Revelation 17… They are just one of the Daughters of Mother Judaism. Judaism is that Great WHORE, not the RCC, as most falsely believe.

At any rate, with the knowledge we can glean from a more honest translation of a right-seeking commentator of scripture, pre-existing the Roman occupation of the Judaians in the BC era, a very valuable look into what one great man had to say on this matter can begin to set the record straight. That man is Jonathan ben Uzziel, the author of The Chaldee Paraphrase (Hebrew Targums) of several Old Testament books in the Bible.

His work and commentary on Deuteronomy can be found online at:

Targum Jonathan on Deuteronomy 1:1

So, the text in question is Deuteronomy 16:9, which is translated from the Jewish Masoretic Text as follows:

You shall count seven weeks. Begin to count the seven weeks from the time the sickle is first put to the standing grain. Then you shall keep the Feast of Weeks to YoHeWaH, your Mighty One, with the tribute of a freewill offering from your hand, which you shall give as YoHeWaH, your Mighty One, blesses you.” Deuteronomy 16:9–10

Upon the surface reading of the above text, it seems straightforward, especially from a standard Jewish recognition of what constitutes a continual weekly Sabbath void of any Renewal or New Moon interruptions. There are seven weeks, which constitute 49 days, then the 50th day of the celebration of the Feast of Weeks, as in seven weeks, right? Pretty simple.

Then again, the most diabolical deceptions are just that… Pretty simple. Very easy to swallow. Babes in Christ love the easy-to-understand dictates that modernity has leveled for us to deal with. See Hebrews 5:11–14

Now compare the words written by Jonathon ben Uzzielin in the late first century BC.

“Seven weeks number to you; from the time when you begin to put the sickle to the harvest of the field after the reaping of the omer, you shall begin to number the seven weeks. And you shall keep with joy the Festival of Weeks before YoHeWaH, your Mighty One, after the measure of the freewill offerings of your hands, according as YoHeWaH, your Mighty One shall have blessed you.” Deuteronomy 16:9–10 Hebrew Targums

Can you spot the difference? Look closely…

The clarifying words, after the reaping of the omer, identify which harvest is spoken of in this text? Jonathon ben Uzziel’s words, added to the text, left out of the Jewish-based Masoretic text, let you know that “the harvest of the field” to which “you begin to put the sickle to” is the wheat harvest, not the barley harvest counted by the omer.

It is after the barley-based omer count of weeks (the first period of 50 plus days) that the sickle is put to the wheat harvest… Then, seven weeks later, which occurs in 50 days, we come to the second period of weeks, also known as the Day of Pentecost, also called the Festival of Weeks.

The term “Feast of Weeks” does not refer to seven weeks, but rather two counts of seven weeks, equaling 14 weeks of the complete harvest of both barley and wheat.

This understanding matches perfectly with what is spelled out in Leviticus 23:15–16, detailed in the following two articles explaining both the details of the count as well as the prophetic implications of the count toward Pentecost.
