101 — The History Of Covenant Law, Part Seven
All Things Levitical Priesthood… The Added, Temporary, Punishment of YoHeWaH’s Law
In this curriculum, we have defined Covenant Law using words like “Original” and “Eternal.” These words denote a past, present, and future time setting of YoHeWaH’s instructions, called the Law of Liberty.
In this section of our course, we will repeatedly exercise the act of critical thought. Critical thinking is defined as the ability to analyze information and form a judgment effectively. It is an intellectually disciplined process that involves actively and skillfully conceptualizing, applying, analyzing, synthesizing, or evaluating information gathered from, or generated by, observation, experience, reflection, or communication, as a guide to belief and action.
In its simplest terms, critical thought is put into action simply by asking questions. Much like a child continually asks why? It’s all about connecting the dots. In this case, it's all the dots of scripture.
We will begin that undertaking by addressing three adjectives that must define Levitical Priesthood Law. They are:
1 — Added — Denoting an additional element. It is worth noting that when something is added to the original, it does not negate or abolish the original. If I add salt to my French fries, I do not abolish the fries on my plate.
2 — Temporary — Lasting for a limited amount of time, not existing before that time began, nor lasting forever. A temporal entity has a beginning and an end.
3 — Punishment — a penalty inflicted for an offense, usually factoring in the removal of one’s freedom or liberty in some form or fashion. A very close grammatical cousin of the word punishment is the word bondage. The fact is, we will use these words interchangeably throughout this portion of our course.
The following question needs to be addressed immediately.
1 — Why was the Levitical Priesthood Law added?
2 — Why is it temporary?
3 — Why must YoHeWaH instruct a system of punishment for His people Israel?
The answer to all three questions can be found in Paul’s epistle to the Assembly of Believers at Galatia…
“Why then the (Levitical Priesthood) law? It was added because of SINS committed, until the offspring should come to whom the promise had been made, and it was put in place through messengers by an intermediary.” Galatians 3:19
Paul, maybe the most critical thought author of scripture, practices his craft by asking, “why” as he opens this verse. Why the law? To continue the practice of prompting the reader to become inquisitive, he answers his critical thought question… It is because of sins — plural. Multiple sins led up to the institution of the Levitical Priesthood.
So, let’s continue the practice… What sins? What sins in scripture caused YoHeWaH to be so upset with Israel that they were forced to endure the punishment that is the Levitical Priesthood?
Teachable Moment: The principle of breaking down root words and their meanings is an invaluable tool in Bible study. The name Levi is the base of the Levitical Priesthood. When you look up the name Levi in any given Bible concordance, you read the name given to many Israelites. Well, Duh-huh, that helps a lot.
However, when you look at the root of any given name in scripture, you unlock a treasure chest of information that can be reapplied into the story, if you have eyes to see. YoHeWaH calls things for what they are, and in this case, Levi is named accordingly. The name Levi is derived from the word:
H3867 — lavah: To join, to borrow, to lend
Original Word: לָוָה
Part of Speech: Verb
Transliteration: lavah
Pronunciation: lah-vah’
Phonetic Spelling: (law-vaw’)
KJV: abide with, borrow(-er), cleave, attach or join (self), lend(-er)
Word Origin: [a primitive root]
- (properly) to twine (by implication) to unite, to remain. Also, to borrow (as a form of obligation) or to lend.
Listen to Leah’s words as Levi is named:
“Again she conceived and bore a son, and said, “Now this time my husband will be ATTACHED to me, because I have borne him three sons.” Therefore his name was called Levi.” Genesis 29:34
At the risk of getting too far off the beaten path, allow me to run down a typology that jumps off the page at me.
Leah was the sister wife to Jacob, but Jacob loved Rachel far more than Leah. The two women of Revelation 12 immediately come to mind. The Woman of Revelation 12:1 is loved by Yahweh more than the group of people in Revelation 12:17. One group has to be grafted into the governmental objective, and the other holds the highest offices within that government. The attachment of the Leah figure is a form of grafting in office holders that otherwise would be unloved, just as Jacob would have never given Leah the time of day had he not been tricked by Laban into marrying her.
Likewise, YoHeWaH wanted to literally kill all of Israel at the mountain and begin again with Moses, a type of The Woman of Revelation 12:1, so too, the group of Believers who spurn the vastly essential topics of the sun, moon, and stars, along with all their meaning, must fill the role of office holders within the coming punishment of the restitution of the Levitical Priesthood… wrapped up in the coming Zadok Priesthood described in Ezekiel chapters 40 through 48.
It also must be noted… The symbology of debt is introduced into the equation that defines Levi’s name. The people of Israel who sinned in the Golden Calf Event were in debt to YoHeWaH for sparing their lives. The Woman of Revelation 12:17 will one day be in debt to YoHeWaH for sparing them from the pursuit of the Dragon of Revelation 12… And all Israel will one day be in debt to YoHeWaH for sparing them from eternal death, as all Israel will have to make their way through the punishment of the coming Zadok (Levitical) Priesthood.
So, again, what of these sins that Paul speaks of in Galatians 3:19? What are these exactly?
Sin number 1 — Levi leads a raid upon the men of Shechem.
“And all who went out of the gate of his city listened to Hamor and his son Shechem, and every male was circumcised, all who went out of the gate of his city. On the third day, when they were sore, two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah’s brothers, took their swords and came against the city while it felt secure and killed all the males. They killed Hamor and his son Shechem with the sword and took Dinah out of Shechem’s house and went away. The sons of Jacob came upon the slain and plundered the city, because they had defiled their sister. They took their flocks and their herds, their donkeys, and whatever was in the city and in the field. All their wealth, all their little ones and their wives, all that was in the houses, they captured and plundered.
Then Jacob said to Simeon and Levi, “You have brought trouble on me by making me stink to the inhabitants of the land, the Canaanites and the Perizzites. My numbers are few, and if they gather themselves against me and attack me, I shall be destroyed, both I and my household.” But they said, “Should he treat our sister like a prostitute?” Genesis 34:24–31
Simeon, the older, and Levi, the younger, led this raid. Both lost their inheritance, receiving a curse rather than a blessing from their father, Jacob/Israel.
“Simeon and Levi are brothers; weapons of violence are their swords. Let my soul come not into their council; O my glory, be not joined to their company. For in their anger they killed men, and in their willfulness they hamstrung oxen. Cursed be their anger, for it is fierce, and their wrath, for it is cruel! I will divide them in Jacob and scatter them in Israel.” Genesis 49:5–7
While Levi rebounded from the Shechem incident, serving his sentence through the ministry of the Levitical Priesthood, Simeon fell further into obscurity. Many overlook this, when Moses pronounced the blessings upon all the tribes of Israel right before he died in Deuteronomy 33, there is one tribe missing from that list… Simeon. It could be said that the curse laid upon the two brothers was a result of what they did to the Hivites of Shechem, saving one brother, but it was too much for the other to handle.
Sin Number 2 — The death of Egypt’s firstborn.
I must admit… This one gives me a headache.
First of all, Yahweh prophesied that He would send Abraham’s descendants into captivity for over 400 years. The critical thought question begs, why?
“As the sun was going down, a deep sleep fell on Abram. And behold, dreadful and great darkness fell upon him. Then YoHeWaH said to Abram, “Know for certain that your offspring will be sojourners in a land that is not theirs and will be servants there, and they will be afflicted for four hundred years. But I will bring judgment on the nation that they serve, and afterward they shall come out with great possessions. As for you, you shall go to your fathers in peace; you shall be buried in a good old age. And they shall come back here in the fourth generation, for the iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete.” Genesis 15:12–16
Why? Why did Abraham’s seed have to go into captivity for 400 years? This is another critical thought question that few people seem willing to address. Did Abram do something worthy of such a punishment? Was YoHeWaH punishing one of Abram’s ancestors?
It is here that we must address and keep in mind all that will occur between this moment in prophetic history, as Abram hears his family’s future… A family that doesn’t even exist yet, no less, and the time Israel would find themselves in captivity to Egypt. Let’s examine all the sins committed. Remember our first part of 'The History of Covenant Law,' where we explored all the places where sin was prevalent before Sinai? How much of that was committed by the sons of Israel before they died? Let’s lend a quick list…
1 — Jacob allowed members of his family to attend an Easter fertility feast at Shechem. Idolatry.
2 — Simeon and Levi murdered the men of Shechem.
3 — Jacob allowed his family to have foreign gods, Idols. See Genesis 35:1–3.
4 — The incestuous action of Reuben lying with Jacob’s wife, Bilhah.
5 — Joseph’s ten brothers' offense against him, selling him to Ishmael traders, then lying to their father concerning the incident.
6 — Finally, we have the sin that I believe caused the rubber of YoHeWaH’s wrath to meet the road. Joseph sold Egypt into the original slave system of a debtor’s prison… A form of the fractional banking system we see today, expertized by The Edomite Crown upon our people in modernity.
Notice the text:
“Now there was no food in all the land, for the famine was very severe, so that the land of Egypt and the land of Canaan languished by reason of the famine. And Joseph gathered up all the money that was found in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, in exchange for the grain that they bought. And Joseph brought the money into Pharaoh’s house. And when the money was all spent in the land of Egypt and in the land of Canaan, all the Egyptians came to Joseph and said, “Give us food. Why should we die before your eyes? For our money is gone.” And Joseph answered, “Give your livestock, and I will give you food in exchange for your livestock, if your money is gone.” So they brought their livestock to Joseph, and Joseph gave them food in exchange for the horses, the flocks, the herds, and the donkeys. He supplied them with food in exchange for all their livestock that year. And when that year was ended, they came to him the following year and said to him, “We will not hide from my lord that our money is all spent. The herds of livestock are my lord’s. There is nothing left in the sight of my lord but our bodies and our land. Why should we die before your eyes, both we and our land? Buy us and our land for food, and we with our land will be servants to Pharaoh. And give us seed that we may live and not die, and that the land may not be desolate.”
So Joseph bought all the land of Egypt for Pharaoh, for all the Egyptians sold their fields, because the famine was severe on them. The land became Pharaoh’s. As for the people, he made servants of them from one end of Egypt to the other. Only the land of the priests he did not buy, for the priests had a fixed allowance from Pharaoh and lived on the allowance that Pharaoh gave them; therefore they did not sell their land.
Then Joseph said to the people, “Behold, I have this day bought you and your land for Pharaoh. Now here is seed for you, and you shall sow the land. And at the harvests you shall give a fifth to Pharaoh, and four fifths shall be your own, as seed for the field and as food for yourselves and your households, and as food for your little ones.” And they said, “You have saved our lives; may it please my lord, we will be servants to Pharaoh.” So Joseph made it a statute concerning the land of Egypt, and it stands to this day, that Pharaoh should have the fifth; the land of the priests alone did not become Pharaoh’s.” Genesis 47:13–26
Thus, because of Joseph’s actions, delivering Egypt into captivity, it was only just that YoHeWaH allow Israel to experience slavery just one generation later. As we have already conveyed in the early portion of this curriculum, it appears to be YoHeWaH’s will that all of His people, which includes Egypt (see Isaiah 19:24 25), experience slavery of all kinds.
Sin Number 3 — The Golden Calf Event
YoHeWaH was already well down the road toward punishing the tribe of Levi because of its actions in Shechem via the old swap-a-roo of judgment. We can never be sure what shape or form this judgment might have taken because before history showed us what might have been, Aaron the Levite screwed up even worse.
“When the people saw that Moses delayed to come down from the mountain, the people gathered themselves together to Aaron and said to him, “Up, make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.” So Aaron said to them, “Take off the rings of gold that are in the ears of your wives, your sons, and your daughters, and bring them to me.” So all the people took off the rings of gold that were in their ears and brought them to Aaron. And he received the gold from their hand and fashioned it with a graving tool and made a golden calf. And they said, “These are your gods, O Israel, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt!” When Aaron saw this, he built an altar before it. And Aaron made a proclamation and said, “Tomorrow shall be a feast to YoHeWaH.” And they rose up early the next day and offered burnt offerings and brought peace offerings. And the people sat down to eat and drink and rose up to play.” Exodus 32:1–7
Take note… Aaron was explicitly implicated in idolatrous actions by the words of Moses in the above passage.
Let no one tell you there is no humor found in scripture. Notice Aaron’s words when Moses confronts him concerning his actions. This is nothing short of hilarious.
“And Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you that you have brought such a great sin upon them?” And Aaron said, “Let not the anger of my lord burn hot. You know the people, that they are set on evil. For they said to me, ‘Make us gods who shall go before us. As for this Moses, the man who brought us up out of the land of Egypt, we do not know what has become of him.’ So I said to them, ‘Let any who have gold take it off.’ So they gave it to me, and I threw it into the fire, AND OUT CAME THIS CALF” Exodus 32:21–24
Just like, “I threw the gold into the fire and poof, out came this calf.” It was magic. That’s laugh-out-loud funny if you ask me. I’m sure Moses thought so too, as his brother was trying to defend his deeds.
So, it was… The rubber had met the road. YoHeWaH had full justification to set into action a very merciful punishment for Israel to walk through until the Seed should come.
“YoHeWaH said to Moses, “Consecrate to me all the firstborn. Whatever is the first to open the womb among the people of Israel, both of man and of beast, is mine.”…
“When YoHeWaH brings you into the land of the Canaanites, as he swore to you and your fathers, and shall give it to you, you shall set apart to YoHeWaH all that first opens the womb. All the firstborn of your animals that are males shall be YoHeWaH’s. Every firstborn of a donkey you shall redeem with a lamb, or if you will not redeem it you shall break its neck. Every firstborn of man among your sons you shall redeem. And when in time to come your son asks you, ‘What does this mean?’ you shall say to him, ‘By a strong hand YoHeWaH brought us out of Egypt, from the house of slavery. For when Pharaoh stubbornly refused to let us go, YoHeWaH killed all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both the firstborn of man and the firstborn of animals. Therefore I sacrifice to YoHeWaH all the males that first open the womb, but all the firstborn of my sons I redeem.’ It shall be as a mark on your hand or frontlets between your eyes, for by a strong hand YoHeWaH brought us out of Egypt.” Exodus 13:1 and 11–16
And
And YoHeWaH spoke to Moses, saying, “Behold, I have taken the Levites from among the people of Israel INSTEAD of every firstborn who opens the womb among the people of Israel. The Levites shall be mine, for all the firstborn are mine. On the day that I struck down all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, I consecrated for my own all the firstborn in Israel, both of man and of beast. They shall be mine: I am YoHeWaH.” Numbers 3:11–13
And
“All those listed among the Levites, whom Moses and Aaron listed at the commandment of YoHeWaH, by clans, all the males from a month old and upward, were 22,000. And YoHeWaH said to Moses, “List all the firstborn males of the people of Israel, from a month old and upward, taking the number of their names. And you shall take the Levites for me — I am YoHeWaH — instead of all the firstborn among the people of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the cattle of the people of Israel.” So Moses listed all the firstborn among the people of Israel, as YoHeWaH commanded him. And all the firstborn males, according to the number of names, from a month old and upward as listed were 22,273.
And YoHeWaH spoke to Moses, saying, “Take the Levites instead of all the firstborn among the people of Israel, and the cattle of the Levites instead of their cattle. The Levites shall be mine: I am YoHeWaH. And as the redemption price for the 273 of the firstborn of the people of Israel, over and above the number of the male Levites, you shall take five shekels per head; you shall take them according to the shekel of the sanctuary (the shekel of twenty gerahs), and give the money to Aaron and his sons as the redemption price for those who are over.” So Moses took the redemption money from those who were over and above those redeemed by the Levites. From the firstborn of the people of Israel he took the money, 1,365 shekels, by the shekel of the sanctuary. And Moses gave the redemption money to Aaron and his sons, according to the word of YoHeWaH, as YoHeWaH commanded Moses.” Numbers 3:40–51
Now that we have defined the sins spoken of by Paul back in Galatians 3:19, which brought on the laws of the Levitical Priesthood… laws added until the Seed should come, let's visit a few more New Testament passages which shed light on the purpose of the Levitical Priesthood, as we go through the education lent to us from the author of The Book of Hebrews.
This concludes part one of the seventh part of The History of Covenant Law. Up next, an in-depth journey through Hebrews.
Solid Meat — The Theme of Hebrews
The words of the author of Hebrews can not be fully understood without a little context in the opening of someone else’s mail. You see, that’s precisely what the books of the New Testament boil down to. They are epistles or letters specifically addressing issues directed to the recipients accordingly. So, the first step into fully understanding the words written in these epistles is to think critically about why the letters were written in the first place.
In the case of the letter to the Hebrews, which was dispersed throughout Mesopotamia, i.e., the "Lost Sheep of the House of Israel," the context is found in the ending of chapter five of this idiomatic work.
“In the days of his flesh, Yeshua offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to him who was able to save him from death, and he was heard because of his reverence. Although he was a son, he learned obedience through what he suffered. And being made perfect, he became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him, being designated by The Almighty a high priest after the order of Melchizedek.
About this we have much to say, and it is hard to explain, since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of the Almighty. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:7–14
The above passage speaks directly to the spiritual state of the majority of Believers and those who are commissioned to teach them. They are “babes” in the fullness of Christ, who desire spoiled milk for their theology. These misguided, willingly dumbed-down Believers are also described by the Prophet Isaiah:
“But the multitude of your foreign foes shall be like small dust, and the multitude of the ruthless like passing chaff (Edomites). And in an instant, suddenly, you will be visited by YoHeWaH of hosts with thunder and with earthquake and great noise, with whirlwind and tempest, and the flame of a devouring fire. And the multitude of all the nations (Churches) that fight against Ariel (The Woman of Revelation 12:1), all those who fight against her and her stronghold and distress her, shall be like a dream, a vision of the night. As when a hungry man dreams, and behold, he is eating, and awakes with his hunger not satisfied, or as when a thirsty man dreams, and behold, he is drinking, and awakes faint, with his thirst not quenched, so shall the multitude of all the nations be that fight against Mount Zion.
ASTONISH YOURSELF AND BE ASTONISHED; BLIND YOURSELF AND BE BLINDED! Be drunk, but not with wine; stagger, but not with strong drink!
For YoHeWaH has poured out upon you a spirit of deep sleep, (The big lie of 2 Thessalonians 2:11) and has closed your eyes of the prophets, and covered the heads of the seers.“And the vision of all this has become to you like the words of a book (like the Book of Hebrews or even Daniel) that is sealed. When men give it to one who can read ( or should be able to read), saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot, for it is sealed (with typology).” And when they give the book to one who cannot read, saying, “Read this,” he says, “I cannot read (I am not a Believer).”
And YoHeWaH said: “Because this people draw near with their mouth
and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men,
therefore, behold, I will again do wonderful things with this people,
with wonder upon wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish,
and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”Ah, you who hide deep from YoHeWaH your counsel, whose deeds are in the dark, and who say, “Who sees us? Who knows us?” You turn things upside down! Shall the potter be regarded as the clay, that the thing made should say of its maker, “He did not make me”; or the thing formed say of him who formed it, “He has no understanding”? Isaiah 29:5–16
So, the question is begged, “What are Believers today astonished and blind concerning?” The answer to that question is at the core of this curriculum of Covenant Law and Levitical Priesthood Law, and the ability to distinguish between these two sets of laws rightly. Just as Paul instructed young Timothy…
“Remind them of these things, and charge them before YoHeWaH not to quarrel about words, which does no good, but only ruins the hearers. Do your best to present yourself to YoHeWaH as one approved, a worker who has no need to be ashamed, RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORD OF TRUTH. But avoid irreverent babble, for it will lead people into more and more ungodliness, and their talk will spread like gangrene. Among them are Hymenaeus and Philetus, who have swerved from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already happened. They are upsetting the faith of some. But YoHeWaH’s firm foundation stands, bearing this seal: “Our Savior knows those who are his,” and, “Let everyone who names the name of YoHeWaH depart from iniquity.” 2 Timothy 2:14–19
The Believers that the author of Hebrews was writing to were babes in the arena of “RIGHTLY DIVIDING THE WORDS OF TRUTH”, distinguishing between the applicable Covenant Law and the abolished and inapplicable Levitical Priesthood Law. Those called “The Circumcision”, Edomite Jews, and some physical descendants of the House of Judah, fell squarely into this trap and were by this time leading many of the Lost Sheep of the House of Israel estray by teaching the misguided doctrine that all of Torah is one law, not to be divided at all. This same snare has placed the broad, vast majority of Believers, Jews, and Christians in the bondage of deception.
Jews, both of Judaism and the so-called Messianic and Hebrew Roots Believers, fall into the category of believing that all of Torah is one law and all of it should be kept.
Christians, who teach the “ONE LAW” of Torah is abolished, are in the same hole, just for a different reason. Neither group has correctly divided between these two sets of laws.
Chapters 1–5 of Hebrews, we find a solid foundation for understanding why a Savior came in the flesh in the first place.
Chapter 1 — Defines the family of YoHeWaH as the author introduces the plan of salvation.
Chapter 2 — Defines not only the process of salvation and the need for it but also who mediates that salvation, as well as who, in this age of the called-out dispensation, can receive such an opportunity… The Children of Abraham, solely. Hebrews, carrying on the blessing given to Abraham, Isaac, Jacob/Israel, and the 12 tribes.
Chapter 3 — Lends us an example of those who could rightly divide between these two sets of laws, as opposed to those who could not discern correctly. The chapter concludes with a biblical definition of genuine faith, which is defined as obedience to YoHeWaH’s Covenant Law.
Chapter 4 — Lends to us what command TESTED the true faith of Israel and all Believers… The weekly Sabbath. See Exodus 16:4. The subject of rest viewed through the lens of the weekly Sabbath coincides with the governance of Israel in the Millennium… Which defines the Gospel of Christ. The author continues the theme of Hebrews chapters 1–4, further defining true faith with these words found in chapter 4.
“Let us therefore strive to enter that rest (The Millennium), so that no one may fall by the same sort of DISOBEDIENCE.” Hebrews 4:11
Finally, as Chapter 4 closes, we are introduced to the main subject of the letter, known as The Book of Hebrews, which was written to the diaspora of the twelve tribes of Israel…
“Since then we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens, Yeshua, the Son of YoHeWaH, let us hold fast our confession. For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but one who in every respect has been tempted as we are, yet without sin. Let us then with confidence draw near to the throne of grace, that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Hebrews 4:14–16
Christ, our mediator and great high priest in the heavens, now sits as the Intermediary between the Believer and YoHeWaH, the Father. Christianity fully understands this concept, but Judaism rejects it. However, it is here that Christendom’s knowledge ceases to exist. The ability to apply the spiritual knowledge scalpel to YoHeWaH’s instructions is not in the cards of salvation in the eyes of all of Modernity.
Chapter 5 — Defines what it takes to hold the office of servant, aka, High Priest… Selflessness. True Selflessness. Offices that Believers in the church age are being trained to maintain. The mindset of modern Christendom is that of selfishness, not selflessness. The commissioned, finished product of a true Believer, once all is said and done, is a fully loyal and dedicated Believer, not focused on what they get out of the equation, but instead concentrated on preparing themselves to serve without any opportunism in mind at all. It is with this concept in mind that we find the following, already quoted words:
“… since you have become dull of hearing. For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic principles of the oracles of YoHeWaH. You need milk, not solid food, for everyone who lives on milk is unskilled in the word of righteousness, since he is a child. But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrew 5:11–14
Chapter 6 — Lends to us the basic principles of the Church age:
1 — Repentance from dead works, which are the laws of the added, temporary Levitical Priesthood… Thus, repentance from idolatry.
2 — A proper baptism and the laying on of the Eldership’s hands.
3 — Resurrection from the dead, and eternal judgment, which defines regeneration.
These three fundamental doctrines are utterly rejected by modernity and liberalism. They are the exact words quoted by Peter in Acts chapter 2 when asked by those listening to his message, 120 in number, “Men and Brethren, what shall we do?” Peter’s response:
“Repent and be baptized every one of you in the name of Yeshua Christ for the forgiveness of your sins, and you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit. For the promise is for you and for your children and for all who are far off, everyone whom YoHeWaH our Mighty One calls to himself.” And with many other words he bore witness and continued to exhort them, saying, “Save yourselves from this crooked generation.” So those who received his word were baptized, and there were added that day about three thousand souls.” Acts 2:38–41
The author takes the reader back to the beginning of the promise, which found its infancy in the man called Abraham as he interacted with another type of man named Melchizedek.
“For when The Almighty made a promise to Abraham, since he had no one greater by whom to swear, he swore by himself, saying, “Surely I will bless you and multiply you.” And thus Abraham, having patiently waited, obtained the promise. For people swear by something greater than themselves, and in all their disputes an oath is final for confirmation. So when YoHeWaH desired to show more convincingly to the heirs of the promise the unchangeable character of his purpose, he guaranteed it with an oath, so that by two unchangeable things, in which it is impossible for YoHeWaH to lie, we who have fled for refuge might have strong encouragement to hold fast to the hope set before us. We have this as a sure and steadfast anchor of the soul, a hope that enters into the inner place behind the curtain, where Jesus has gone as a forerunner on our behalf, having become a high priest forever after the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 6:13–20
Chapter 7 — Further defines the relationship between Melchizedek and Abraham. A typology of the relationship that Believers have with Christ… And yes, it is my belief Melchizedek was the original embodiment of the member of the YoHeWaH family that came in the flesh as our Savior, the One who died on the torture stake as our propitiatory sacrifice.
Teachable Moment: If the Sabbath is the great test commandment, and it is, then a proper form of tithing is the second excellent test command designed to evaluate the depths of our loyalty, void of materialism.
“For this Melchizedek, king of Salem, priest of the Most High Mighty One, met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings and blessed him, and to him Abraham apportioned a tenth part of everything. He is first, by translation of his name, king of righteousness, and then he is also king of Salem, that is, king of peace. He is without father or mother or genealogy, having neither beginning of days nor end of life, having been made like the Son of YoHeWaH, he continues a priest forever.
See how great this man was to whom Abraham the patriarch gave a tenth of the spoils! And those descendants of Levi who receive the priestly office have a commandment in the law to take tithes from the people, that is, from their brothers, though these also are descended from Abraham. But this man who does not have his descent from them received tithes from Abraham and blessed him who had the promises. It is beyond dispute that the inferior is blessed by the superior. In the one case tithes are received by mortal men, but in the other case, by one of whom it is testified that he lives. One might even say that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid tithes through Abraham, for he was still in the loins of his ancestor when Melchizedek met him.” Hebrews 7:1–10
It is essential to note that the subject of tithing directly relates to the instruction on the role the Levitical Priesthood plays in a proper understanding of rightly dividing between the two sets of Torah Law. It is almost like tithing mediates between the two, as perfection (loyalty) is further defined. The author goes on to state:
“Now if perfection had been attainable through the Levitical priesthood (for under it the people received the law), what further need would there have been for another priest to arise after the order of Melchizedek, rather than one named after the order of Aaron? For when there is a change in the priesthood, there is necessarily a change in the law as well. For the one of whom these things are spoken belonged to another tribe, from which no one has ever served at the altar. For it is evident that our Lord was descended from Judah, and in connection with that tribe, Moses said nothing about priests.” Hebrews 7:11–14
It also must be noted that the change of the law would be better worded, “the removal of some of the law, revealing what remains.” For Believers in Christ, it is the Levitical Priesthood commands of ceremonial, sacrificial ordinances that are removed (changed), leaving the original Covenant Law as our guide unto life.
The instructions concerning tithing and all of Covenant Law are further enforced toward our salvation via the author’s following words:
“This becomes EVEN MORE EVIDENT when another priest arises in the likeness of Melchizedek, who has become a priest, not on the basis of a legal requirement concerning bodily descent, but by the power of an indestructible life. For it is witnessed of him,
“You are a priest forever,
after the order of Melchizedek.” Hebrews 7:15–17
The author of Hebrews continues to make the case that the Levitical Priesthood is a poor avenue of salvation, at best a stopgap measure for Israel to regroup until the coming of Christ (see Galatians 3:19).
“For on the one hand, a former commandment is set aside because of its WEAKNESWS AND USELESSNESS, for the (Levitical Priesthood) law made nothing perfect; but on the other hand, a better hope is introduced, through which we draw near to YoHeWaH. (That better hope is the renewal of Covenant Law tempered with the first time giving of the indwelling of YoHeWaH’s Spirit.)
And it was not without AN OATH. For those who formerly became priests were made such WITHOUT AN OATH, but this one was made a priest with an oath by the one who said to him:
“YoHeWaH has sworn
and will not change his mind,
‘You are a priest forever.’” Hebrews 7:18–21
The author continues to boast for the restitution of the Covenant Law-based Melchizedek Priesthood as the freeway to life, utterly demolishing the bondage of the Levitical Priesthood Law as being anything void of a punishment designed to bring Israel to Christ and the law of liberty.
Then the author makes a statement worthy of critical thought…
“This makes Yeshua the guarantor of a better covenant.” Hebrews 7:22
Question… Who was the guarantor of the previous covenant? Would that not be the man Levi, and more specifically, Aaron? Even more specifically, at the beginning of the Millennial period, Zadok?
You see, the author of the book of Hebrews fails to address this, either during his time or in ours, or the coming new age of a restored Priesthood. However, we must address it today if we are to understand what is fast approaching us. This exercise of questioning critically is an act already defined by the author of Hebrews earlier when he writes:
“But solid food is for the mature, for those who have their powers of discernment trained by constant practice to distinguish good from evil.” Hebrews 5:14
The limitations of the physical Levitical and, by extension, the coming Zadok Priesthoods are spelled out further as chapter seven closes, with critical commentary within parentheses.
“The former (and future Levitical) priests were many in number, because they were prevented by death from continuing in office, but he (Christ) holds his priesthood permanently, because he continues forever (this would include the period before Levi during the days of Araham). Consequently, he is able to save to the uttermost those who draw near to The Almighty through him, since he always lives to make intercession for them.
For it was indeed fitting that we should have such a high priest, holy, innocent, unstained, separated from sinners, and exalted above the heavens. He has no need, like those high priests, to offer sacrifices daily, first for his own sins and then for those of the people, since he did this once for all when he offered up himself. For the law appoints men in their weakness as high priests, but the word of the oath, which came later than the law, appoints a Son who has been made perfect forever.” Hebrews 7:23–28
Chapter 7 of the Book of Hebrews clearly defines the differences between the two priesthoods based on the two codified sets of laws within the Torah. This explanation continues into chapter 8. Again, please note the critical commentary within parentheses.
“Now the point in what we are saying is this: we have such a high priest, one who is seated at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in heaven, a minister in the holy places, in the true tent (tabernacle) that YoHeWaH set up, not man. For every high priest is appointed to offer gifts and sacrifices; thus it is necessary for this priest also to have something to offer. Now if he were on earth, he would not be a priest at all, since there are (Levitical) priests who offer gifts according to the law (at the time this letter was written before 70 AD). They serve a copy and shadow of the heavenly things (TO COME IN THE FUTURE of this writing). For when Moses was about to erect the tent, he was instructed by YoHeWaH, saying, “See that you make everything according to the pattern (typology) that was shown you on the mountain (government).” But as it is, Christ has obtained a ministry that is as much more excellent than the old as the covenant he mediates is better, since it is enacted on better promises. For if that first (before, or prior to) covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second (after the one before).” Hebrews 8:1–7
Critical Thought Question — What was the “before or prior to” Covenant spoken of in the above passage? And what was the Covenant defined as AFTER “the one before”?
Allow the question to be clarified.
The order of Covenants looks like this:
1 — The original Covenant was from Adam until the Golden Calf Event
2 — The second Covenant was from the Golden Calf Event until Christ.
3 — The third Covenant was from Christ until now.
The re-asked question is this… Which one is the first covenant spoken of in the text? And which one is the second Covenant spoken of in the text? The text is translated as follows without any commentary.
“For if that first covenant had been faultless, there would have been no occasion to look for a second.” Hebrews 8:7
The author continues to make the running theme jump from the page at the reader by quoting from the Prophet Jeremiah.
“For he finds fault with them (Golden Calf Israel) when he says:
“Behold, the days are coming, declares YoHeWaH,
when I will establish a new covenant with the house of Israel
and with the house of Judah, not like the covenant that I made with their fathers on the day when I took them by the hand to bring them out of the land of Egypt. For they did not continue in my covenant, and so I showed no concern for them, declares YoHeWaH. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, declares YoHeWaH: I will put my laws into their minds, and write them on their hearts, and I will be theirMighty One, and they shall be my people. And they shall not teach, each one his neighbor and each one his brother, saying, ‘Know YoHeWaH, see 1John 2:3–4,’
for they shall all know me, from the least of them to the greatest. For I will be merciful toward their iniquities, and I will remember their sins no more.” Hebrews 8:8–12
Keeping with the exercise of identifying which covenants are being addressed, see if you can correctly discern which ones of the three are inscribed as chapter 8 closes…
“In speaking of a new covenant, he makes the first one obsolete. And what is becoming obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away.” Hebrews 8:13
Which of the three above-listed Covenants is the “new covenant” in the above text? And which one is the first covenant?
Obviously, the translators have done us a great disservice via their Judeo-Christian theology that we have all been born into. The mistranslation in these few verses has led believers to err consistently in modern times, especially within the Western world. These mistranslations are manifest as the chapter 9 opens.
“Now even the first (before or prior to) covenant (The Levitical Priesthood Covenant) had regulations for worship and an earthly place of holiness. For a tent was prepared, the first section, in which were the lampstand and the table and the bread of the Presence. It is called the Holy Place. Behind the second curtain was a second section called the Most Holy Place, having the golden altar of incense and the ark of the covenant covered on all sides with gold, in which was a golden urn holding the manna, and Aaron’s staff that budded, and the tablets of the covenant. Above it were the cherubim of glory overshadowing the mercy seat. Of these things we cannot now speak in detail.” Hebrews 9:1–5
With the MISGUIDED understanding that the “first” covenant was the single law of Moses, as in both Covenant Law and Levitical Priesthood Law, then we can see it is easy to abolish both sets of laws accordingly under the new covenant of Christ. In the next two chapters, (Hebrews 9 and 10) this misguided theme continues, void of rightly dividing the word of truth. If you can not apply a differentiation between the two sets of laws, then your understanding of what Hebrews is conveying to Believers will be sidelined permanently.
Teachable Moment: It becomes evident that even the Apostles did not fully understand how to rightly distinguish between the laws written in the Book of the Covenant and the laws of the Levitical Priesthood. That statement is blasphemy to all of the Judeo-Christian world, however, just as Daniel wrote: “Knowledge will increase”, implying fully that Believers in the last days will comprehend so much more than even the Patriarchs of old.
It is with this backdrop that I wish to convey another Teachable Moment:
The story and process of salvation is one of stages and developments. These stages are as follows:
1 — The Infancy of Adamkind… From Adam until Abraham, when YoHeWaH was a parent to a faithful man.
2 — The Childhood of Adamkind… Abraham until Christ. The age of Ancient Israel, void of YoHeWaH’s Spirit.
3 — The Young Adulthood of Adamkind… Christ until today, what would be termed as the church age, with the aid of YoHeWaH’s Spirit.
4 — The Maturity of Adamkind… Ready to govern in righteousness.
Once you see this metaphor of enlightenment, acknowledging the methodology with which The Almighty has been working and advancing man toward the place that He would one day be able to not only be worthy of right governance but also be trusted to honor YoHeWaH in loyalty, which defines perfection… Only then can you see the big picture more clearly. You can also come to understand why we have far more understanding today than even the Apostles held two millennia ago. The mission of the early church fathers wasn’t to prepare believers to govern, but rather to initiate the refining process of Believers. To begin knocking off the rough edges first before addressing and fine-tuning Believers toward a good understanding of YoHeWaH’s coming government, AND each Believer’s role in that government.
Today, as a small number of Believers that have made their way through the obstacle course that is the process of salvation spanning six thousand years of time, the infancy of the next stage is beginning to take shape. The application of adding a good understanding of the right form of government to the equation. It is literally just like baking a cake. You do not add the icing when mixing the cake ingredients before baking. You add the icing after the cake is baked. So too, the cake is out of the oven and the master chef is ready to dress the bride of His cake with all the good things that make it right, and good, and true.
The author of Hebrews continues:
“These preparations having thus been made, the priests go regularly into the first section, performing their ritual duties, but into the second only the high-priest goes, and he but once a year, and not without taking blood, which he offers for himself and for the unintentional sins of the people. By this the Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the holy places is not yet opened as long as the first section is still standing (which is symbolic for the present age). According to this arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the conscience of the worshiper, but deal only with food and drink and various washings, regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation.” Hebrews 9:6–10
These two stages of the Tabernacle, the Inner Court and the Holy of Holies, are a good representation of the first two stages of the above list showing the developmental salvation process, bringing us to Christ and, for the first time ever, the indwelling of YoHeWaH’s Spirit, kicking off the church age. The words “(which is symbolic for the present age)” are indicative of where Israel was spiritually at the time the authors of the Book of Hebrews wrote. Christ and Him crucified, along with the indwelling of YoHeWaH’s Spirit, is the time of reformation, just as the above passage states.
“But when Christ appeared as a high priest of the good things that have come, then through the greater and more perfect tent or tabernacle (not made with hands, that is, not of this creation) he entered once for all into the holy places, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption. For if the blood of goats and bulls, and the sprinkling of defiled persons with the ashes of a heifer, sanctify for the purification of the flesh, how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal SPIRIT offered himself without blemish to The Almighty, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living Creator.” Hebrews 9:11–14
The key word is this text is “spirit” as in “who through the eternal SPIRIT offered himself without blemish to The Almighty”. Now, it must be noted, the tense in which this word is used is quite revealing to us if we have eyes to see. In chapter 28 of my book called “The Book of The Covenant, A Witness Against America”, entitled “Regeneration, YoHeWaH’s Technique of Perfection”, I list all the ways in which the Greek word pneuma (G4151) is used throughout the Greek New Testament, which is a very revealing study.
Regeneration, YoHeWaH’s Technique Of Perfection | by Joey Thompson | Medium
The word translated “Spirit” in the above text fall into the following tense of the word pneuma, defined as:
86 — πνεύματος — 97 Occ. — In fullness of the indwelling of YoHeWaH’s Spirit, in full character, perfected in righteousness and loyalty.
The point being, what Christ did via His atoning sacrifice was done in the perfection of loyalty as our example to which we are to strive for and eventually obtain, purifying our conscience away from dead works within the service of the living YoHeWaH.
“Therefore, he (the risen Christ) is the mediator of a new covenant, so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance, since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.” Hebrews 9:15
There are just a ton of comments to be made from this single passage.
1 — Just as Moses was the original mediator of the many mediators that followed him until Christ, so too, the process continues. The following statement would be another example of blasphemy in the eyes of modernity, but I’m going to say it anyway. The day is coming when Christ will be replaced by another mediator as the baton is passed to the Woman of Revelation 12:1, and in fact, Christ is literally promoted to the office of Father over the nation of Israel by the conception of children, for He explains this quite well through the prophet Ezekiel.
“Therefore say to the house of Israel, Thus says the Sovereign YoHeWaH: It is not for your sake, O house of Israel, that I am about to act, but for the sake of my holy name, which you have profaned among the nations to which you came. And I will vindicate the holiness of my great name, which has been profaned among the nations, and which you have profaned among them. And the nations will know that I am YoHeWaH, declares the Sovereign YoHeWaH, when through you I vindicate my holiness before their eyes. I will take you from the nations and gather you from all the countries and bring you into your own land. I will sprinkle clean water on you, and you shall be clean from all your uncleannesses, and from all your idols I will cleanse you. And I will give you a new heart, and a new spirit I will put within you. And I will remove the heart of stone from your flesh and give you a heart of flesh. And I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes and be careful to obey my rules. You shall dwell in the land that I gave (promised) to your fathers, and you shall be my people, and I will be your Mighty One.” Ezekiel 36:22–28
And
“And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the YoHeWaH; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares YoHeWaH.” Ezekiel 37:14
The placing of YoHeWaH’s Spirit indwelling into the womb of the minds of the whole house of Israel is the conception that promotes the risen Yeshua the son, to the office of Father, just as Isaiah 9:6 states.
“For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting FATHER, Prince of Peace.” Isaiah 9:6
2 — Again, the reference to the translated “new” covenant should be understood as the continuation of the original process of salvation (the stages of development of man)… an operation so rudely interrupted by The Golden Calf Event and the punishment of the Levitical Priesthood.
3 —The statement, “so that those who are called may receive the promised eternal inheritance,” is an extremely poor translation, which causes the reader to receive a “get” mentality, establishing a selfish mindset of the gospel of Christ. Notice how the Greek interlinear indicates that the verse should be understood in a certain way.
“And because of this, a covenant, new, the Mediator He is, so that death having taken place for the redemption of those under the first (before) covenant transgressions, the promise might receive those having been called of the eternal inheritance.” Hebrews 9:15 Greek Interlinear
The point being, the promise is of the calling, not the automatic eternal inheritance. The promise is an opportunity at salvation, not a guarantee of salvation accordingly.
4 — The transgressions committed under the first or before the Covenant are the idolatry of the Golden Calf Event. Hopefully, everyone should understand that much if you have been paying attention throughout this course. Thus, understanding furthers the context of the author’s point concerning the difference between these two priesthoods of Melchizedek and Levi. One is eternal and a blessing. One is temporary and a curse.
Now, as chapter 9 continues, the author, probably Paul, waxes poetic and lawyerly.
“For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established. For a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive.” Hebrews 9:16–17
The Probate process of dealing with the inheritances of the dead roots deeply into the annals of scripture. The author of Hebrews clearly had a good understanding of this principle. He continues…
Therefore, not even THE FIRST COVENANT was inaugurated without blood. For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took the blood of calves and goats, with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, saying, “This is the blood of the covenant that The Almighty commanded for you.” And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both the tent and all the vessels used in worship. Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.” Hebrews 9:18–22
The translator’s understanding of what constituted the “first” covenant is clearly not fully comprehended. For here, in the above-quoted text, he speaks of the events of Exodus 24 before the Golden Calf Event took place, concerning Covenant Law, void of any of the added punishment of the Levitical Priesthood. His point was concerning the shedding of blood, which continues the thought started earlier; however, in my opinion, he errs, not knowing the detail of these covenants, calling the ratification of the original, the law of liberty, the first or before Covenant, which had until this time reserved for the constructs of Levitical Priesthood Covenant.
Notice how the Greek interlinear indicates the text should beread…
“Wherefore, neither the first apart from blood has been inaugurated.” Hebrews 9:18 Greek Interlinear
The word Covenant is not in the text. Thus, the translators took the liberty of inserting the word Covenant into the text, causing obvious confusion once you know the truth. The author’s reference to the first (or before) in this verse is referring to something totally different from what he has been speaking of with the title “first” up until this time. However, if you take the translator’s word for it, you will think the two are one and the same.
“Thus, it was necessary for the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these.” Hebrews 9:23
Teachable Moment: Please note… You see the word translated as “copies”. It is plural, as in more than one typology exists concerning the copy, shadow, or typology of the Levitical Priesthood Tabernacle of regulations. We know there is an order to the throne room which exists because of the sin of idolatry through pride when HaSatan rebelled against YoHeWaH. This event was a precursor to the Golden Calf Event, and the result on both levels was a regulatory system of worship and allegiance. That said, that is still only one typology, not a plurality of copies.
There is today another typology that has manifested before our eyes. Can you guess what that fulfilled copy is?
Today, in the true nation of Israel, there is another system of regulation and order removed from the liberty of Covenant Law. A punishment system designed to bring order out of the chaos of freedom, opposed to the law of liberty. The Admiralty Law system of The UNITED STATES is the fulfillment of the typology of The Levitical Priesthood, in these last days.
Also, please note, this system works to refine our people, making them ready to receive YoHeWaH’s Spirit. So, lest you think the system is void of YoHeWaH’s direction and intention, please know, all things work together for the good of those who call upon the name of YoHeWaH… Even that which is defined as evil.
“For Christ has entered, not into holy places made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of The Almighty on our behalf. Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters the holy places every year with blood not his own, for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, he has appeared once for all at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. And just as it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment, so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.” Hebrews 9:24–28
Now, the above quoted text speaks clear enough to the reason Christ came the first time, however, I want to address the statement, “so Christ, having been offered once to bear the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly waiting for him.”
Again, the authors of the New Testament wrote in terms of incomplete data using the inspiration of YoHeWaH’s Spirit, lending to Believers only the information needed to complete the third stage of development spoken of earlier. There are enough glimpses into the fourth stage for those at the end of that age to determine that there is yet another stage we will be undertaking as Believers, concerning the development of the whole House of Israel in the Millennium.
The author of Hebrews speaks of a second coming of Christ but provides no details regarding how this event will take place. The nuts and bolts of such an event are left to a good understanding of the concepts revealed within the ancient, yet esoteric, understanding of the Major and Minor Prophets. Yeshua returns through the Woman of Revelation 12:1, coming in the name of YoHeWaH just as Yeshua came as mediator in the name of YoHeWaH before us. This is the very goal of the gospel of Christ, and we are literally right on the cusp of seeing it fulfilled right before our very eyes.
Chapter 10 continues the explanation, rightly dividing the word of truth.
“For since the (Levitical Priesthood) law has but a shadow (a typology) of the good things to come, (Christ), instead of the true form of these realities, it can never, by the same sacrifices that are continually offered every year, make perfect those who draw near. Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshipers, having once been cleansed, would no longer have any consciousness of sins? But in these sacrifices, there is a reminder of sins every year.” Hebrews 10:1–3
There are three points we can glean from the above passage:
1 — Even in punishment there are positives that YoHeWaH uses to show forth a better situation that was to come.
2 — The goal of Christ is to make perfect the Saints, and as we have seen throughout other scripture, that objective is for the purpose of the government and family of YoHeWaH increase. Perfection is defined as loyalty to YoHeWaH, not sinlessness.
3 — The words, “But in these sacrifices, there is a reminder of sins every year,” are referring to the Day of Atonement act, each year, not Passover, for the author continues:
“For it is impossible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins.” Hebrews 10:4
The word “to take away” is defined as: to remove by choice, as in a conscious effort to fully overcome a sin by a Believer, completing the task, verified by YoHeWaH, worthy of a Day of Atonement termination of that sin.
“Consequently, when Christ came into the world, he said,
“Sacrifices and offerings you have not desired, but a body have you prepared for me; in burnt offerings and sin offerings you have taken no pleasure. Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come to do your will, O YoHeWaH,
as it is written of me in the scroll of the book.’” Hebrews 10:5–7
Most Believers would take the words, “a body have you prepared for me” to mean that the Father has prepared a physical body for His Son to live in. I do not believe this is the main meaning of this passage, although it might have been what the Author of Hebrews understood at the time of his writing. Let me explain.
The author left out a highly important sentence as he quoted from Psalms 40:6–8. Let’s examine the words of David the Psalmist a little more closely to see if we can ascertain an even deeper understanding of what the author of Hebrews may have understood.
“In sacrifice and offering you have not delighted,
BUT YOU HAVE GIVEN ME AN OPEN EAR.
Burnt offering and sin offering
you have not required.
Then I said, “Behold, I have come;
in the scroll of the book it is written of me:
I delight to do your will, O my God;
your law is within my heart.” Psalms 40:6–8
The LXX renders this passage exactly the same, with the exception of the above statement concerning an open ear. That sentence says this:
“… but a body you readied to me.”
This deeper look into this verses conveys two very important points to me:
1 — The author of Hebrews quoted from the LXX, not the Masoretic Text.
2 — The body referred to in this text is not that of Christ’s physical body, but rather the body of Believers that would one day act on Christ’s behalf to govern rightly the nation of Israel… The Psalmist continues in chapter 40 with the insight of the Gospel of Christ, defined as the good new of the coming government of YoHeWaH.
“I have told the glad news of deliverance
in the great congregation;
behold, I have not restrained my lips,
as you know, O YoHeWaH.
I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart;
I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation;
I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness
from the great congregation.” Psalms 40:9–10
I have made the case repeatedly… There is no theatrical return of Christ in the heavens. He returns via the embodiment of His Saints, the perfected body spoken of in this text, just as the Prophet Micah states:
“And you, O tower of the flock,
hill of the daughter of Zion,
to you shall it come,
the former dominion shall come,
KINGSHIP FOR THE DAUGHTER OF JERUSALEM.” Micah 4:8
Again, the author of Hebrews continues to hammer the point, rightly dividing the word of truth concerning the order of these covenants, specifically the priesthoods. Only to have the translators screw it all up again.
“When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), then he added, “Behold, I have come to do your will.” HE DOES AWAY WITH THE FIRST IN ORDER TO ESTABLISH THE SECOND. And by that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Yeshua the Christ once for all.” Hebrews 10:8–10
The “FIRST” is the “BEFORE” covenant and/or the Priesthood of Levi.
The “SECOND” is the “SUBSEQUENT” covenant and/or the Priesthood of Melchizedek.
But to the dumbed-down Christian, void of any understanding concerning how the pieces of the biblical puzzle fit together, the above text shows the following:
The “FIRST” is the totality of YoHeWaH’s Law or instructions, and the second is the so-called New Covenant” given to Christians of a false understanding of grace, through a watered-down faith.
You can almost hear the exhaustion in the tone of the author’s next words:
“And every priest stands daily at his service, offering repeatedly the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins. But when Christ had offered for all time a single sacrifice for sins, he sat down at the right hand of YoHeWaH, The Father, waiting from that time until his enemies should be made a footstool for his feet. For by a single offering he has perfected for all time those who are being sanctified.” Hebrews 10:11–12
The same “tired, old” sacrifices, fruitless as they may be. But then, he shows the better way that he has spoken of in past chapters… The way of Covenant Law, the law of Liberty.
“And the Holy Spirit also bears witness to us; for after saying,
“This is the covenant that I will make with them
after those days, declares YoHeWaH:
I will put my laws on their hearts,
and write them on their minds,” Then he adds,“I will remember their sins and their lawless deeds no more.” Hebrews 10:15–17
Finally, the author concludes this teaching on the two Priesthoods, which are the two covenants, along with a vital admonition for us today.
“Where there is forgiveness of these, there is no longer any offering for sin.” Hebrews 10:18
And
“Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Yeshua, by the re-newed and living way that he opened for us through the (torn) curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of YoHeWaH, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts SPRINKLED clean from an evil conscience and our bodies WASHED with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you SEE THE DAY APPROACHING.” Hebrews 10:19–25
Do we SEE THE DAY APPROACHING? Do we see judgment coming? And why is judgment coming? Answer — Because wayward Israel, basically the Christian Right, has spurned the detail of YoHeWaH’s Covenant Law.
“For if we go on sinning deliberately after receiving the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a fearful expectation of judgment, and a fury of fire that will consume the adversaries. Anyone who has set aside THE LAW OF MOSES dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of YoHeWaH, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace? For we know him who said, “Vengeance is mine; I will repay.” And again, “YoHeWaH will judge his people.” It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living YoHeWaH.” Hebrews 10:26–31
The running theme throughout Scripture, especially in the Major and Minor Prophets, is the extent to which YoHeWaH mercifully holds out His hands, asking, in fact, begging for Israel to turn back to Him and His ways of Covenant.
We will close this section of The History of Covenant Law with the words of the author of Hebrews:
“For, yet a little while, and the coming one will come and will not delay; but my righteous one shall live by faith, and if he shrinks back, my soul has no pleasure in him.” Hebrews 10:37
