Typology, The Key To Understanding Scripture
The written name of The Almighty (YHWH) and the more likely name of Christ (Yeshua) will be used in this article.
What you will read in this article is nothing short of the next step in your theological understanding of YHWH’s Word. It will reveal a much deeper understanding of Yeshua, who was the Word made flesh that dwelt among us, John 1:14…. And, it will cause many of the unconnected pieces of the big picture puzzle to come together, as the scripture will begin to jump off the page at you like never before. You don't believe me?… Stick around and you’ll see.
Typology is defined as, the study and interpretation of types and symbols, from the origin, especially in the Bible. The key wording from that definition would be “from the origin”, as in the origin of truth.
Pilate asked Christ, “What is truth?”
Knowing Christ's words, it is shocking that His answer didn’t include something to the effect, that you have to have eyes to see and ears to hear to know the truth…. But instead, He said nothing, probably knowing such an explanation would be fruitless.
Eyes to see. Ears to hear. What does that mean?
Well, simply put, there is a code language throughout YHWH’s Word that lends an understanding of knowledge, a layer down below the story being told on the surface of scripture.
There is a historically accurate telling of events in the lives of men and women of YHWH between the re-creation of Genesis 1:2 and the first century Assemblies of Yeshua. That would be the surface story being told. It is here most all Believers are very content to reside, remaining comfortable in their theology and teaching. However, this layer of scripture is most certainly open to not only interpretation but also enough deception via the lying pen of the scribes to lead Believers into a world of hurt, theologically.
“How can you say, ‘We are wise, and the law of YHWH is with us’? But behold, the lying pen of the scribes has made it into a lie. The wise men shall be put to shame; they shall be dismayed and taken; behold, they have rejected the word of YHWH, so what wisdom is in them?” Jeremiah 8:8–9
So how can we know what the truth is if the translators (tranSLAYers) have set traps within YHWH’s word long before we were even born? The answer to that question is via tried and true tools of Bible Study that I will reveal within this article.
It must be noted the Bible is a book that can be read for its surface instruction and inspiration. Such a top-layer reading will lend progress toward the goal but I assure you, it will not bring you to the place YHWH desires for you to obtain and/or dwell. The Bible is a work of study, much like a puzzle, as described already. If left unexplored, deception most certainly will be at work.
The first tried and true tool of study is placing a right understanding of the meaning of keywords into any given passage in question. It’s no mystery identifying the keywords of any given text. The mystery is how to get to the meaning of those words, and it's a little more than just reading the definition from Strong’s Concordance or any layman’s dictionary. Even Jimmy Strong was a victim of the lying pen of the scribes, on the surface.
So, here is a great example of a text where the keyword can easily be identified and how the translators have done a number on Believers, leading them into great deceptions concerning one of the most important subjects in all Christendom.
“There remains therefore a rest for the people of YHWH.” Hebrews 4:9 KJV
Here is the complete text as translated by the KJV.
“Therefore, since a promise remains of entering His rest, let us fear lest any of you seem to have come short of it. For indeed the gospel was preached to us as well as to them; but the word which they heard did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in those who heard it. For we who have believed do enter that rest, as He has said:
“So I swore in My wrath,
‘They shall not enter My rest,’ ”although the works were finished from the foundation of the world. For He has spoken in a certain place of the seventh day in this way: “And YHWH rested on the seventh day from all His works”; and again in this place: “They shall not enter My rest.” Since therefore it remains that some must enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, “Today,” after such a long time, as it has been said:
“Today, if you will hear His voice,
Do not harden your hearts.”For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. THERE REMAINS THEREFORE A REST FOR THE PEOPLE OF YHWH. For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as YHWH did from His.”
The key word in this text is “rest”. The word rest is used 4 times leading up to verse 9 in the chapter.
“For we who have believed enter that rest,” verse 3
“They shall not enter my rest,’” verse 3
“They shall not enter my rest.” verse 4
“For if Joshua had given them rest,..” verse 8
Therefore the word translated rest in verse 9 must mean the same thing, right? That is the way it is translated. I’m afraid not.
The context of the chapter is very clearly The Kingdom of YHWH, which defines the gospel of Christ. The word “rest” is the Greek word Katapauso (G2664). In all four instances, in verses 3, 4, and 8 the word is defined as “a down sitting, a pause or settling, to settle down”. Reading on the surface in the King James version, one might conclude the meaning of verse 9 would be the same. However, upon closer inspection, it becomes clear this word is not the same word and holds a much deeper implication within the context of the chapter.
The words, translated “rest” in verse 9, via the KJV and NKJV is:
Strong’s Concordance G-4220
sabbatismos: a sabbath rest
Original Word: σαββατισμός, οῦ, ὁ
Part of Speech: Noun, Masculine
Transliteration: sabbatismos
Phonetic Spelling: (sab-bat-is-mos’)
Definition: a sabbath rest
Usage: a keeping of the Sabbath, a Sabbath rest.
Now, here’s what you need to know concerning the above definition from Strong’s Concordance. There is no Greek word for Sabbath Observance. This word is actually a Hebrew word transliterated into the Greek Language to make the point that New Testament Believers are still obligated to look to and observe Covenant Law, and in this case, more specifically the point of Covenant Law which is the fourth commandment of the ten.
The context of chapter 3 working into chapter 4 of the book of Hebrews is a picture of typology being told within the surface telling of portions of Covenant Law. In this case, the 4th commandment…. Which is to say, the observance of the Sabbath Day is a typology pointing to the coming Kingdom or Government of YHWH, here on this earth.
Many of the newer translations of the Bible has the verse translated more correctly.
“So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God,” Hebrews 4:9 English Standard Version
Even with the translations rectified, Christianity still abolishes all concepts of the weekly Sabbath stating something to the effect that Jesus became your Sabbath. We no longer have to play out those old laws that were a burden. They never consider there might be an impure motive in their theology that led them to that conclusion, flying in the face of what the writer of Hebrews plainly states in chapter 4:9. A ratification of the command to keep the weekly Sabbath holy and set apart.
If you think critically concerning the above example, you can see an impicturement of the Sabbath itself…. It is a rich typology. A careful study of the weekly, annual, and yearly Sabbaths in scripture, tells a story unheard within Christendom because of this aforementioned abolishment. The Sabbath looks back to the recreation of Genesis 1. It holds our worship intact currently, and it looks forward to the coming Kingdom of YHWH. It is a past, present, and future typology of understanding.
Thus, with this knowledge, when you come across the word sabbath in scripture, in all cases, your mind should plug into the text these meanings. My questions would be, does Christendom do this today? I think not.
Allow another example of typology…. Wine.
Wine used in moderation can be a useful tool for enjoyment, if you’re drinking good wine, that is. There are good wines and there are bad wines, new wines, and aged wines. When Yeshua turned the water into wine, what was produced was a very rich, good wine the wine bibbers noticed immediately.
“When the master of the feast tasted the water now become wine, and did not know where it came from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew, the master of the feast called the bridegroom and said to him, “Everyone serves the good wine first, and when people have drunk freely, then the poor wine. But you have kept the good wine until now.” John 2:9–10
The Greek word used in this text and in fact, all New Testament verses where the word wine is translated, is Oinois (G-3631). Its one-word definition is simply “wine”.
Now, take a look at the following passage using the exact same word, Oinois.
“Then one of the seven angels who had the seven bowls came and said to me, “Come, I will show you the judgment of the great prostitute who is seated on many waters, with whom the kings of the earth have committed sexual immorality, and with the WINE of whose sexual immorality the dwellers on earth have become drunk.” Revelation 17:1–2
Please know, despite what almost all of Christianity teaches the entire book of Revelation is 100% symbolic. There will be no literal, single great whore riding a beast all over the world deceiving Believers into some sort of drunken orgy celebration which will keep them from entering into life. I mean, if you believe that, stop right now, and go do something else. I simply can not help you.
The symbology of the above-quoted text speaks to the false doctrine of the Great Whore (translated Prostitute), which is the Catholic Church. How do we know wine is a typology pointing to doctrine or teaching? By doing exactly what Isaiah tells us to do…. And this lesson number two of the tried and true tools of bible study falls dead center in our lesson concerning the typology of wine. Pay careful attention to what you are about to read.
“In that day YHWH of hosts will be a crown of glory, and a diadem of beauty, to the remnant of his people, and a spirit of justice to him who sits in judgment, and strength to those who turn back the battle at the gate.
These (Christians) also reel with WINE (false doctrine) and stagger with strong drink (false theology); the priest and the prophet reel with strong drink, they are swallowed by wine, they stagger with strong drink, they reel in vision, they stumble in giving judgment. For all tables are full of filthy vomit, with no space left.
“TO WHOM WILL HE TEACH KNOWLEDGE, and to whom will he explain the message? Those who are weaned from the milk, those taken from the breast? For it is precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, HERE A LITTLE, THERE A LITTLE.”
For by people of strange lips (Covenant Keepers) and with a foreign tongue (understanding the depths of scripture) YHWH will speak to this people, to whom he has said, “THIS IS REST; give rest to the weary; and this is repose”; YET THEY (Christians) WOULD NOT HEAR. And the word of YHWH will be to them precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, here a little, there a little, that they (Christians) may go, and fall backward, and be broken, and snared, and taken.” Isaiah 28:9–13
I have taken the liberty to insert a little commentary into the above text to show how false doctrine (bad wine) and deceptive theology (strong drink), can leave Believers in error in the last days. The time setting is given in the very opening of the quoted verse, “In that day YHWH of hosts will be a crown of glory”
But did you catch the tried and true tool of bible study. “precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, HERE A LITTLE, THERE A LITTLE.”
The context of the passage continues further making my point of how end time Believers fall back (backsliding) and are snared and taken, broken by a lack of understanding. Notice the key commentary within the text as Isaiah continues in chapter 28.
“Therefore hear the word of YHWH, you scoffers (of Covenant Law), who rule this people in Jerusalem! Because you have said, “We have made a covenant with death (the heaven and hell doctrine), and with Sheol, we have an agreement, when the overwhelming whip passes through, it will not come to us, for we have made lies our refuge, and in falsehood, we have taken shelter”; therefore thus says the Sovereign YHWH, “Behold, I am the one who has laid as a foundation in Zion, a stone, a tested stone, a precious cornerstone, of a sure foundation: ‘Whoever believes will not be in haste.’ And I will make justice the line, and righteousness the plumb line, and hail will sweep away the refuge of lies, and waters will overwhelm the shelter.” THEN YOUR COVENANT WITH DEATH will be annulled, and your agreement with Sheol will not stand; when the overwhelming scourge passes through, you will be beaten down by it. As often as it passes through it will take you; for morning by morning it will pass through, by day and by night; and it will be sheer TERROR TO UNDERSTAND THE MESSAGE (of Covenant law).” Isaiah 28:14–19
The terror spoken of at the close of the above text is the JUDGMENT given to Israel (America) via the words of the blessings and curses chapters of scripture, which are both contents within The Book of The Covenant… Leviticus 26 and Deuteronomy 28.
So, going back to the text quoted from Revelation 17:1–2, we can see, the saints have become drunk on the wine (false doctrine) of her teaching. The Protestant Churches of Christendom have carried with them many of the false doctrines taught in the Roman theology of Catholicism. Wrapped in a good understanding of typology in scripture is YHWH’s judgment upon the Christian churches for this watered-down, pagan theology which the church fails to look inwardly at even until the very last days when judgment hits Christians right between the eyes.
Note the following condemnation from YHWH concerning Believers failing to distinguish between the clean and the unclean…. This is a major problem in our nation today and within the church itself.
“And the word of YHWH came to me: “Son of man, say to her (The Church), You are a land (government) that is not cleansed or rained upon in the day of indignation. The conspiracy of her prophets (Christian Preachers and Teachers) in her midst is like a roaring lion tearing the prey; they have devoured human lives; they have taken treasure and precious things (tithes and offerings); they have made many widows in her midst. Her priests have done VIOLENCE TO MY COVENANT LAW and have profaned my holy things. They have made NO DISTINCTION between the SET APART and the COMMON, neither have they taught the difference BETWEEN THE CLEAN AND THE UNCLEAN, and they have disregarded my Sabbaths so that I am profaned among them. Her princes in her midst are like wolves tearing the prey, shedding blood, and destroying lives to get dishonest gain (a greater reward in heaven by the number of souls saved). And her prophets have smeared whitewash for them, seeing false visions and divining lies for them, saying, ‘Thus says The Sovereign YHWH,’ when YHWH has not spoken. The people of the land have practiced extortion and committed robbery (because the pulpit has taught the abolishment of Covenant Law). They have oppressed the poor and needy, and have extorted from the sojourner without justice (and no Christian stood in the gap to stop it). And I sought for a man among them who should build up the wall and stand in the breach before me for the land, that I should not destroy it, BUT I FOUND NONE. Therefore I have poured out my indignation upon them (the coming judgment upon our so-called Christian nation). I have consumed them with the fire of my wrath. I have returned their way upon their heads, declares The Sovereign YHWH.” Ezekiel 22:23–31
Clearly, YHWH is speaking but who or what is He speaking to? And what’s more, who is it that is not listening?
say to her (The Church)
Time for another example of typology. More of the code language we can glean by simply doing what YHWH taught us through Isaiah's instruction to apply “precept upon precept, precept upon precept, line upon line, line upon line, HERE A LITTLE, THERE A LITTLE.”
A woman is a typology of a church or assembly. Simply think of the Bride of Christ, which most all Believers should recognize as the church, without spot or wrinkle or any such blemish…. Which should cause all Believers to pause. For we are most certainly not without spot or wrinkles and blemish… And why? Because we have abolished the very testimony of Christ and His shed blood via our lack of knowledge of Covenant Law. Thus fulfilling Hosea’s end-time statement:
“My people are destroyed for a lack of knowledge because you have rejected knowledge, I reject you from being a priest to me. And since you have forgotten the (covenant) law of your God, I also will forget your children.” Hosea 4:6
This code language of typology is all throughout scripture if you have eyes to see and ears to hear. Below are just a few examples of the typological code in scripture.
Land = Government
Mountains = World Governments (Federal Government in America)
Hills = State and Local Governments
Zion = Common Law of the land, Covenant Law.
Sea = The Government of Babylon, Regulatory, Admiralty Law
Rivers = The banking system of money flow
Kingdom = Government of King, Land, People, and Laws
Jerusalem in the prophets of the bible = The United States
Israel = America
Ephraim = The United States of America
Joseph = Great Britain and America
Tyre = Capitalism
Egypt = Christianity and the Christian Right
Moab = Catholicism
Ammon = Democrats of the left
At that time = An end-time setting
If you will notice, the examples I have given denote political, end-time entities we would all recognize today. The fact is America and some of the entities of the political landscape of America are the main point of the story being told in the Major and Minor Prophets of the bible.
It also must be noted, Christ Himself defines the Gospel, as the Gospel of the coming Kingdom of YHWH. A Kingdom is defined as having the following four major components.
1 — A King
2 — A Land
3 — A People
4 — A Set of Laws
Just in case you’re not paying attention, the above list denotes a government. When Christ said, My Kingdom (government) is not of this world, He very clearly meant, His coming Kingdom is not of the world at that time, two thousand years ago, nor any of the six thousand years to which man had held in covenant to prove he can govern himself apart from YHWH. There is coming, however, a time when that covenanted time will end and Yeshua will most certainly have His Kingdom here on this earth. Not in heaven as Christianity falsely teaches.
“and you have made them a kingdom and priests to our God,
and they shall reign ON THE EARTH.” Revelation 5:10
There are many other typologies of scripture that can become clear once you have the basics down concerning how to identify them accordingly. Certainly, identifying the players, like watching any given sporting event is key to fully understanding what is actually going on. May YHWH bless you in your studies.
